PRIVATE FUNCTION CREATE WORLD FIRST EVER PISS FILLED VINYL RECORD!

Yes it is true! In what has been described as "the grossest vinyl launch of all time", Melbourne punk band Private Function are releasing 50 urine-filled copies of their new record, 370HSSV 0773H, which will land this Friday, 31 March, 2023.

It was in late 2016 that Private Function first appeared on the scene. Seemingly emerging from nowhere, the group – featuring former Clowns guitarist (and noted quizmaster) Joe Hansen, and Mesa Cosa’s Chris Penney – turned heads with their track “Dial Before You Dig” from their debut EP Six Smokin’ Songs. The EP alone was enough to put themselves on the map, with artwork that featured Bryan Curtis, the face of Australia’s anti-smoking campaign, portrayed as being at death’s door until he heard the band’s music.

In 2019 they released their first album. Dubbed St. Anger, both the title and artwork ripped off Metallica’s divisive album of the same name, yet managed to go beyond the joke that many naysayers – or even fans – may have expected it to be. Throughout the 13 tracks the band unravels a distinctive home-grown punk authenticity through their melodies that amplify their DIY attitudes with boasting energy, animosity and an in-your-face bravado.

In 2020 they released Whose Line Is It Anyway?, their 2nd full length album The promotional campaign raised eyebrows when the band pressed bags of unidentified white powder into a limited edition vinyl record. The cover art was also familiar to every kid who went through the Australian primary school system: a five-dollar note folded in a way that makes it looks like a whale giving head.

With Walloping hooks, a thumping rhythm sections and embellished guitar solos meld impeccably with overzealous, Spinal Tap-esque rock’n’roll theatricality, stadium-sized choruses and the band’s characteristic oddball humour – while still maintaining the tumultuous looseness and tongue-in-cheek irreverence that Private Function are now famous for.

For the new album, 370HSSV 0773H...the band took to Instagram this week commenting :

“Congratulations to the 50 people who ordered the “Gold” version of our new record… You just bought a liquid disc full of our piss,”

They explained :

“We worked with local legends Salty Dog Records to build the world's first piss filled record, it turns out it’s really hard.“Because of the annoying amount of experimentation needed to make this record work we don’t have a physical copy yet but there’s a Youtube video outlining the creation of it.”

Believe it or not, this isn’t the band’s first outrageous vinyl stunt. Early pressings of the band’s 2020 album Whose Line Is It Anyway? contained small bags of speed.
In an interview with Louder Than War, the band’s guitarist Joe Hansen revealed how the idea for the speed baggies came together.

“We were trying to think of novelty cash-grab vinyl variants that people love,” Hansen said, “and [vocalist] Chris [Penney] came up with the idea of pressing bags inside the record. We weren’t sure if it was possible, but we asked around and found someone here that was able to do it. Let’s just say it’s probably not a record you’d want to risk sending overseas.”

So I hope those 50 fans that get a piss filled record enjoy it although the band have urged fans not to use the band members’ DNA to commit crimes.

The vinyl release of Private Function’s new album also has another competition to it with the first 3000 copies of 370HSSV 0773H featuring a scratchable album cover, with three Australiana-themed icons underneath the scratchie panels.Of the 3000 copies, only one will share three identical icons.
The one lucky fan whose sleeve reveals all three matching icons will receive a signed test pressing of 370HSSV 0773H, $2999 in cash, directly from the band and a photo of their face printed on all future pressings of the album across all variations, forever. The scratchie idea was born from Private Function wanting to give back to their fans.

The band said,
"We were thinking about how we could give back to our fans in a fun way, and we came up with this really simple idea that we couldn’t believe hadn’t been done before."

"Finding a company that would actually print scratchable panels onto record sleeves wasn’t easy, but you bet we found a way to make it happen."

The album is released this Friday the 31st of March 2023.Get your orders in quick!!!!
