It may be his second solo album, but INTERPOL frontman Paul Banks has ditched his alter ego Julian Plenti and is releasing a new solo album under his own name, Banks joined New York indie rockers Interpol all the way back in 1997, a group who made it as one of the biggest post-punk revival bands of the 00s, Banks has also been active in the urban world lately, appearing on El P's latest album, covering J DILLA, collaborating with RZA, planning production work with Chad Hugo of the NEPTUNES and producing a mixtape for DATPIFF, Having achieved so much at his current young age of just 34, Banks has worked alongside some of the best of the best, touring with names such as THE CURE, U2 and headlining festivals such as Chicago's Lollapalooza and the UK's Reading and Leeds, Paul Banks' latest solo album, 'Banks' is a ten song album; a tour-de-force of exhilarating minor-key intensity, The album was recorded in New York and Connecticut with producer Peter Katis (INTERPOL, THE NATIONAL, SHEARWATER, J NSI), Following this summer's limited edition (and now sold out) EP, the album is personal and epic, catchy and serpentine - much like your favourite Interpol albums, with Paul's wry humour, bare emotion, and varied influences all in full effect, And where 2009's 'Julian Plenti Is.Skyscraper' was culled largely from songs pre-dating Interpol (as far back as the mid '90s), 'Banks', with all new material written in the past few years (with the exception of "Summertime Is Coming"), is a vivid documentation of Banks in the here and now, and his most abjectly personal work to date.
